Viktoria’s Journey to Remission

Viktoria, 5 years old

Diagnosis – Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia

Viktoria, a bright and brave five-year-old, was just three when her mother noticed swollen lymph nodes after what seemed like a routine cold. Soon, Viktoria developed a high fever, and further tests led to a diagnosis no family wants to hear: acute lymphoblastic leukaemia. Viktoria was also born with a genetic condition, which meant her doctors had to take extra care to tailor her treatment and support her unique needs throughout this journey.

Viktoria began treatment in November 2022 at one of the leading children’s cancer clinics. Her treatment included an intensive combination of chemotherapy and immunotherapy, requiring multiple hospital stays, procedures, and careful monitoring to keep infections at bay.

In the summer of 2023, thanks to your support, Gift of Life was able to provide Viktoria with a critical medication, Mercaptopurine, which is essential in maintaining remission for children like her. This treatment, funded at £209, allowed Viktoria to continue her therapy safely, despite her body’s sensitivity to standard drug doses.

Today, Viktoria is home, feeling well, and enjoying precious moments of childhood. She remains in remission, with regular check-ups to monitor her health and catch any signs of relapse early. Her smile and energy are a testament to her courage and the timely support she received.

Your generosity has played a part in Viktoria’s journey, helping her get the chance to grow up, play, and dream of the future she deserves. Thank you for standing by children like Viktoria and giving them the strength to keep going.

Every donation matters. With your continued support, we can help more children in the CIS region access life-saving treatment at the right time. Let’s keep making stories like Viktoria’s possible, together.
