“Kids for Kids” helps to save young lives

For the fourth year in a row, the charity fundraiser “Kids for Kids” has successfully raised crucial funds for children with cancer in Russian hospitals. More than £820 was collected during the “Music Masters for Gift of Life” piano concert, organised by our supporter, pianist Aleksei Demchenko, who has been imparting musical wisdom to young talents in London for many years.

Having resided in the UK for quite some time, Aleksei knew about the Gift of Life’s mission of helping children and young people with cancer or blood diseases from Russia and the CIS. His passion for aiding individuals in challenging life situations through music inspired him to create “Kids for Kids.” This charity fundraiser gives an opportunity to children to perform, play piano and other instruments and extend their support to young cancer patients fighting for their lives.

Aleksei shared his thoughts on supporting this noble cause, which offers seriously ill children a better chance at survival.

“We were thrilled to support Gift of Life in this challenging year. The young pianists did an amazing job – they put together a fantastic musical programme and set a wonderful example for all of us! Breaking down boundaries, even small acts of kindness can make a significant difference and save lives. We are always delighted to assist the children under the care of Gift of Life and intend to continue in the same spirit.”

This year’s concert program featured pieces by Tchaikovsky, Haydn, Khachaturian, Reinagle, and other renowned composers, virtually performed by young talents.

The “Music Masters for Gift of Life” concert and the “Kids for Kids” fundraising campaign have been invaluable in supporting the charity and children in desperate need of cancer medications. The current situation in Russia with regards to access to the most effective, European-manufactured cancer drugs remains challenging. Many of these medications are simply not available in Russia, and they are often rare and expensive, with manufacturers reluctant to go through the local registration process.

As a UK charity, Gift of Life has better access to European pharmaceutical suppliers and can provide these medications in a timely and efficient manner. Thanks to the generosity of our donors, fundraisers, partners, and volunteers since 2011, Gift of Life has invested over £8,600,000 in medical programmes to fight children’s cancer in Russia, benefiting more than 540 seriously ill children.
