The Fourth World Winners’ Games, held on the 14th-16th of June 2013 at the CSKA stadium in Moscow, are now finished.
The Winners’ Games are an integral part of the Podari Zhizn foundation’s rehabilitation programme. For the fourth year running, children from a wide variety of countries have gathered for this unique sports festival. They all have one thing in common – they’ve already won the greatest victory of their lives, the victory over disease.
Over three days, they participated in countless competitions, from swimming and football to shooting and chess. 400 children from 12 countries came together, won medals, celebrated and supported each other, laughed from the heart, made new friends, picked up bits of foreign languages, and resolved to keep training to earn new victories in the next Games.
Among the children who have triumphed over cancer, some participated in the games not only as participants, but also as volunteers. For the foundation’s former charges, volunteering is one of many ways to regain self-confidence and truly feel themselves to be healthy and strong. One of the best examples of this is Rita Khairullina, who received Erwinase from the Gift of Life foundation’s benefactors last year, and this year served as one of the Games’ photographers. Rita is also a professional swimmer, and we hope she overcomes all obstacles and becomes an Olympic champion!
