Azizbek Kodirov is 11 years old, and he came to Moscow for treatment from the city of Tashkent in Uzbekistan, where doctors admitted their inability to help the boy. Azizbek has acute lymphoblastic leukaemia, which is hard to treat and has a high rate of relapse. It was decided that only a bone marrow transplant could save the boy’s life.
Azizbek found a donor for the transplant operation. But in order for the operation to take place and succeed, it was necessary to force the disease into the state of remission. This was accomplished thanks to four packs of the medication Erwinase, purchased with funds collected in the UK.
Unfortunately, the disease is resisting treatment. Right now, the doctors are trying to develop a new strategy for battling his leukaemia.
