A charity play in London starring Chulpan Khamatova has gathered £25,000 in aid of children with oncological and haematological diseases in the care of the Gift of Life and Podari Zhizn foundations.
On the 12th of January 2014, the Criterion Theatre, London, saw a charity performance of The Hour When You Leap Into Souls As Into Arms, starring Chulpan Khamatova in the lead role. The theatre was filled to capacity, with an audience of over 500, including the actress and co-founder of the Gift of Life and Podari Zhizn foundations Dina Korzun, the ballerina Ulyana Lopatkina, the artist Erik Bulatov with his wife Natalya, and the director Ilya Khrzhanovsky.
The Hour When You Leap Into Souls As Into Arms is a new solo programme by People’s Artist of Russia Chulpan Khamatova, in which she reads the prose and poetry of Marina Tsvetaeva and Bella Akhmadulina while accompanied by saxophone (Veronika Kozhukharova) and piano (Polina Kondratkova). The evening of music and poetry featured the works “Mother and Music”, “Lessons of Music” and “A Tale About Rain”.
The Gift of Life foundation will spend all of the £25,000 gained from ticket sales on purchasing expensive foreign medicines for the children in the care of the Podari Zhizn foundation in Russia.
We would like to express special thanks to Roman Abramovich, Kaspersky Lab and Aeroflot – Russian Airlines for their aid in covering all expenses of the play’s London tour.
